My best piece of advice is to start with mom's outfit FIRST! Moms tend to be the most particular about what they are wearing and it's crucial mom is in an outfit that makes her feel good! Then build everyone else's outfit around hers. My typical routine is mom's outfit, then my daughters, then my sons, then dad! Sorry dad! lol
I typically recommend 2-3 outfits for baby!!!! I like a knotted gown or comfortable one piece outfit, a solid white onesie (good for some solo portraits alone and has such a solid classic, timeless, newborn vibe), and then a nice stretchy swaddle blanket!!!! I like to start in the gown or one piece, then swap to the solid onesie, then swaddle baby up in the white onesie with the blanket swaddle!
However that is all optional and up to you! If you want to just swaddle baby up for the whole session, or just do a one piece outfit, etc., that is all fine with me!
I typically prefer a lot of solids for in-home sessions, or studio newborn sessions! Too much pattern can feel like it is competing for attention on camera with the decor of your home. Stick with usually one person in a smaller, dainty pattern instead of anything bold. Texture, however, is totally fine! Everyone else then should stick to solids.
For colors, I usually recommend neutrals with pops of color. Creams, whites, browns, tans, golds, etc as the base, then add in rich colors that suit your home. However, take a walk through your home and take note of the colors you see. Is your home mostly neutral? You might want to add in more color in your outfits then! What color is your couch, bedding, nursery decor? These are the rooms that typically have larger windows for light, and where I take most of the photographs. What colors would complement the space? Think about when you print and hang photos in your home, too. The colors should fit in and not clash! Please feel free to email or text me photos of rooms in your home you think we will use, and I can recommend a personalized color palette to fit your space.
If you're doing a studio session, all of the decor should be neutral, so you have more flexibility with color. Feel free to reach out for my recommended color palette based on the studio chosen.
Please consider WHERE the photos are taking place! If you're doing a session in your home, consider leaving out the shoes! Unless it's normal for your family to have shoes on at all times, it can feel out of place on the camera. You're welcome to not wear shoes at the studio as well for a cozy, lifestyle vibe.

No matter what, these photos will pause time. You will be able to look back and remember how blissfully new this little babe was, and how in love you felt looking at their sweet face. You will cherish these for years to come, and you will love them.
Please always feel free to email or text me when you're online shopping or going through closets and want another opinion, truly, I got you!
